Ramos / Palm Sunday Festival

In an initiative known only to professional orchestras and choirs and after several participations abroad, it is time, also in an amateur choir, to bring professionals from abroad to PORTUGAL. This is how, in 2005, VoxLaci launched the first Ramos Concert Cycle!

Since that date, this annual initiative has marked the daily lives of people, knowing that each year, on the weekend of Palm Sunday and under the direction of an International Maestro, VoxLaci offers 3 concerts of great quality of sacred music.

This initiative has been extremely rich for all elements of the choir, conductors and public, reflecting on a sharing of different ways of being, seeing and feeling the music!

With the dedication of those who sing, the skill of the conductor and the stubbornness of the organiser, it is thus possible to give the public an international repertoire and conductor that they could hardly have in their daily lives!

In his concert-length choral cycle setting verses by an international roster of poets, American composer and conductor Eric Banks will examine the myriad symbols – fertility and freedom, royalty and romance, singularity and strength, honesty and exile – that we have assigned to the palm in various countries of the world and through the eras of human history. The verses of As palmeiras [The palms] find their origins in Hawai’I, the Philippines, India, Turkey, Syria, Algeria, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, and Brazil, and will be sung in at least eight languages (Arabic, Bengali, English, Filipino, French, German, Portuguese, and Turkish).
