Ramos | Palm Sunday Festival

Welcome to RAMOS (palms, branches) Journey. If you are an experienced singer, be part of this international event.

How to participate as a Singer? Would you like to participate but don’t know if you have availability? What are the conditions and repertoire? Rehearsal days and event program?

In an initiative only known to professional orchestras and choirs and after several participations abroad, the time has come, also in an amateur choir, to bring professionals from abroad to PORTUGAL. That’s how, in 2005, VoxLaci launched the first Ramos Concerts Cycle! Since that date, this annual initiative has marked people’s daily lives, knowing that every year, on Palm Sunday weekend and under the direction of an International Maestro, VoxLaci offers 2-5 high quality concerts of sacred music. This initiative has been extremely rich for all elements of the choir, conductors and audience, reflected in a sharing of different ways of being, seeing and feeling music! With the dedication of those who sing, the dexterity of those who direct and the stubbornness of those who organize, it is thus possible to give the public a repertoire and an international conductor that they could hardly have in their daily lives!

Dr. David A. McConnell founded Vox Philia in 2012 as an intergenerational chamber choir made up of professional and gifted amateur singers. The choir’s first three seasons focused almost exclusively on music by living composers, featuring over a dozen local and world premieres. The choir’s performances have garnered considerable acclaim for thematic programming and musical excellence.  https://berkssinfonietta.org/leadership/

In his concert-length choral cycle setting verses by an international roster of poets, American composer and conductor Eric Banks will examine the myriad symbols – fertility and freedom, royalty and romance, singularity and strength, honesty and exile – that we have assigned to the palm in various countries of the world and through the eras of human history. The verses of As palmeiras [The palms] find their origins in Hawai’I, the Philippines, India, Turkey, Syria, Algeria, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, and Brazil, and will be sung in at least eight languages (Arabic, Bengali, English, Filipino, French, German, Portuguese, and Turkish).
