Vincenzo Scarafile: Italian Maestro of Choral Excellence
Vincenzo Scarafile is a distinguished Italian conductor, countertenor singer, and educator, renowned for his profound expertise in choral music and Renaissance polyphony. Born in 1980 in Cisternino, a picturesque town in the province of Brindisi, Puglia, Scarafile’s lifelong passion for music began in his youth, shaping him into one of Italy’s most dedicated stewards of vocal artistry.
A Journey of Musical Mastery
Scarafile’s formal education reflects his unwavering commitment to choral traditions. He earned his diplomas in Violin, Choral Music, and Choral Direction from the “N. Rota” Conservatory in Monopoli (BA). He further advanced his skills with a first-level Academic Diploma in Choral Mastery from the “F. Morlacchi” Conservatory in Perugia. His crowning achievement came with a second-level Academic Diploma in Renaissance Polyphony, awarded with honors from the “T. Schipa” Conservatory in Lecce.
Throughout his studies, Scarafile sought guidance from world-class mentors, including Acciai, Baroffio, Baldy, Berrini, Bressan, Fratelli, Graden, Grün, and Sciutto. These influences honed his interpretive depth and technical precision in choral repertoire. Since 2000, he has immersed himself in the pedagogical philosophy of Zoltán Kodály, training with Hungarian masters at prestigious institutions such as the Esztergom Summer University, the Hungarian Academy in Rome, and the Kodály Institute in Kecskemét. This expertise has made him a sought-after vocal technician, particularly for flutists and choristers in workshops like the International FlautoInCanto.

Leadership and Artistic Activities

With these ensembles, he toured extensively across Europe, the United States, Canada, China, Jamaica, and Bermuda, contributing to projects that combined historical authenticity with innovative artistic expression.
From 2018 to 2020, Scarafile served as director of the Compagnia Virtuosa in Pescara, an ensemble acclaimed for its interpretations of Renaissance choral music. He collaborates as assistant conductor with the Coro del Faro in Bari.
Since 2024, he has directed the Officina Corale Pugliese of ARCOPU (Apulia Regional Choral Association) at the Archaeological Museum of Brindisi and has served as chorus master for major performances of the Apulian Regional Choir in collaboration with the Magna Grecia Orchestra of Taranto, including projects such as Te Deum (Ešenvalds, Dvořák, Jenkins) and Mozart’s Requiem.
A Dedication to Education and Innovation
Beyond the podium, Scarafile is a passionate educator, coordinating workshops and masterclasses that empower emerging artists. His approach, rooted in Kodály’s principles, emphasizes joyful, holistic music-making. Through platforms like SoundCloud and YouTube, he shares recordings and insights, fostering a global community of choral enthusiasts. Whether directing a cappella ensembles or mentoring young voices, Scarafile’s work bridges centuries-old compositions with modern audiences, ensuring the timeless beauty of Italian polyphony endures.
