Hirmandade

Hirmandade shares its root with “irmandade” and the Spanish “hermandad”: the Latin germanitas, from germanus, a blood brother. In medieval Iberia, irmandades were leagues of people who joined together, often under royal protection, to defend each other and restore justice — a pact between different people who choose to become one common force. That's the spirit behind the ensemble's name: different people finding common ground. A male vocal ensemble has a particular sound, but the real interest goes far beyond vocal range. It's learning to listen. To trust. To support another voice. To have presence without needing to fill the whole space. Tenors, baritones and basses build together a colour none of those voices could produce alone. The repertoire explores different languages, periods and cultures, working on vocal technique, tuning, interpretation and ensemble identity. This isn't about singing next to other men. It's about building something with them.
